Few Christian programs have garnered the level of critical acclaim and multi-platform viewership as The Chosen. The show — a historical drama of the life of Christ through the eyes of those around him — has appeared on the IMDb Top 250 list, and reviewers have lauded the program’s storytelling and production. Such success made the chance to serve in professional roles on the show all the more appealing to Baylor Film & Digital Media (FDM) students.
Aundrea Suhl-Borbón (BA ‘25) and Major Hargraves are among the Baylor students who have worked on the program, which is shot in both Texas and Utah. Suhl-Borbón, a 2025 graduate, and Hargraves, a current senior, have each spent multiple seasons with the show, gaining valuable professional experience as students.
For Suhl-Borbón, her start with the show was an answer to prayer and an unexpected opportunity. She landed an internship with the program as a sophomore, much earlier in her academic career than the many seniors and graduate students also serving in that role. Her first assignment was as a costume intern, a position she says was a surprise given that she didn’t know how to sew. But she excelled in that role and earned others, eventually working her way up to the role of videographer and editor with the program’s Behind-the-Scenes team, which provides a look into meaningful moments from filming and production to the The Chosen fanbase.
Hargraves was encouraged by Suhl-Borbón to pursue a role on the show, and he found his entrance into the show with a role in the costume department, helping with wardrobe needs and background extras. Like Suhl-Borbón, Hargraves also earned additional opportunities after garnering positive attention for his work. He eventually moved into his “dream role” with the program, Behind-the-Scenes videography.
Both say the professional production opportunities they received were invaluable, but getting to do so with The Chosen was even more meaningful. Working in both summer and school-year assignments, they navigated work and study, along with travel in Texas and Utah, to make it happen.
“Everyone says this is the best cast and crew they’ve ever worked with,” Suhl-Borbón notes. “It’s a different environment than a typical Hollywood set because it’s Christ-centered.”
For Hargraves, the impact goes beyond faith circles: “Good art resonates because it’s grounded in human experience. That’s why even non-believers connect with The Chosen.”
Sic ’em, Aundrea and Major!
