It’s been more than two months since Hurricane Harvey wreaked its havoc, but the work in cities along the Texas coast from Rockport to Houston and beyond is not yet done — and so, neither is Baylor.
Of course the Baylor Family jumped into action immediately after the storm, collecting supplies and raising money to help those affected by Harvey. But those efforts are still going; most notably, a team of Baylor students and professors spent their Fall Break earlier this month doing relief work around Houston.
The team partnered with several Houston churches (including Heritage Park Baptist and South Main Baptist) and Baptist agencies, the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corp., Preemptive Love Coalition, and others to help Houstonians begin the process of rebuilding their homes.
The Baylor men’s basketball team also held a special exhibition game against the University of Houston during Homecoming weekend, raising more than $20,000 for hurricane relief. And just this week, the Baylor Lariat profiled a group of music students who raising funds to help replace some of the instruments Kingwood High School lost to the flood.
And the work still isn’t done; another trip to the Gulf Coast is being planned for Spring Break, and funds raised from this year’s Baylor Christmas Ornaments will go to support those efforts.
Sic ’em, Bears!
