For the first time in more than a decade, the Baylor Undergraduate Mock Trial Team is headed to nationals. Having accomplished that goal, they decided it was so enjoyable that they went ahead and qualified a second team for nationals, as well — an honor just three other schools in the nation can match.
For further context, fewer than 7% of mock trial teams make it to nationals. Baylor’s pair of teams will be competing in the American Mock Trial Association National Championship this weekend (April 17-19) in Cincinnati.
The team has come a long way. In 2012, the team consisted of just three members. Three years later, its membership had increased tenfold. These 30-plus members meet at the Baylor Law School for 15-20 hours a week — and that’s on top of traveling to tournaments all over Texas, and even one in Chicago this past February.
